Bourne, the later Mission Impossibles, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, films which take that basic plot and attack it in a pure thriller/whodoneit. You have this really serious setting, one man trying to prevent global cataclysm at the hands of pure evil, and two big schools of thought in how that is approached.įirst you've got the serious approach. Spy films, to me at least, are the puppy love of cinema. Perhaps this is to emphasize his desire to preserve the Earth he is willing to work against his own morals and sense of what is right and wrong in order to accomplish his goals.Īll in all, I enjoyed this film when I realized it was simply a fun action movie with a respectful (and humorous) nod to the old age of spy films. man conflict in Valentine as he openly finds killing and violence disgusting, but still sets his plot forth. This conflict seems a bit shallow and overused to me, but then again, this movie is going for a "far-fetched theatrical plot", so maybe I'm expecting too much from it. The basis of the bad guy's plot is to kill off a huge part of the population in order preserve a smaller portion, and of course, the hero's reaction is stop them.
